The starting point for this series was a rather personal intuition. From time to time, I find myself wondering whether my relationship with reality is as direct as I would like to believe. I question to what extent my image of the world is truly rooted in reality, and to what extent it grows out of the interpretations and mental constructs I create for myself.

For some time now, I have been painting forms that resemble plants. Their roots exist, yet remain enclosed within their own structure. They never reach the ground and are unable to fulfil their most fundamental function. They exist in a permanent state of suspension, somewhere between the organic and the artificial, between life and something that at times resembles a theatrical prop.
