The Golem is a figure from Jewish mystical tradition. In the first painting, it became a starting point for thinking about what identity is made of. Not clay, but memory, recollections, dreams, and fragments of experience.
Golem II takes this idea a little further. From what I am made of towards observing how I construct my own understanding of myself and the world.
I’m interested in my tendency towards storytelling: turning experiences into narratives, connecting events, and giving them meaning. I leave some things out, emphasize others, sometimes draw the wrong conclusions, yet constantly produce meaning.
For me, the Golem becomes a figure for this process. A form that can be endlessly reshaped and filled with content. The more I try to understand something, the more I participate in constructing what I later come to see as my own story.
